Hollywood featuring Penguin Prison by RAC is a longtime favorite song of mine. I recently played this in my car with a group of musically proficient friends who had never heard the song before and quickly fell in love with it.  This little diddy checks all the boxes, calming? Yes. Still somehow upbeat? Definitely. Still thinking about how I used the word "diddy" in a post? Me too...

Harlem, the new single from New Politics is an upbeat track, that as my friend says "sounds like an indie intro to a high school cheerleading movie." While this may seem to be an strange description, it's oddly accurate and perfectly describes the high paced and energetic feel. I've always been a sucker for any "garage rock" inspired music and this falls into that grunge-y category that I am admittedly not ashamed to love.

On the slightly darker side, there is Breezeblocks by Alt-J. I would say that this song falls into the suprisingly addictive category. I purchased this on a whim but then found myself putting it onto repeat, singing alton to all of the words, and trying to match the unusual, almost monotone, voice of Joe Newman(the lead singer). Only when one truly listens to, and dissects the lyrics is the true, murderous, and heartbreaking meaning behind the song revealed. Nonetheless, this is a fantastic song which will only become more popular in the months to come.

When you live in the rainiest city in the world, everyday is sweater weather. Aside from the relatable title, this song is pure gold. With it's mellow tempo this truly is my go to when I'm in the mood to listen to something not too upbeat, but I also don't want to be put to sleep. All in all this song is terrific and I have a feeling we may be hearing it on the mainstream radio in days to come.

Easily one of my favorite songs right now, Global Concepts by Robert DeLong is  unlike any other on the market. It has that, gives me goosebumps and makes my heart beat fast element while still having a subtle message of looking back on life and seeing what truly matters. No other current song makes me want to get up and jump around quite like this one. It has just the right amount of electric beat without venturing into the dangerous dub step territory and it also has the most amazing use of percussions. I guarantee that once you learn the words you'll be driving along screaming out the lyrics and having a private dance party, I'm just guessing...
